Well, well, well

Here I sit with a renewed vim, vigor and vitality, long may it continue :) We got the new dog, Brandy yesterday she is really wonderful spirit. Very well behaved and took a shine to our family as much as we did to her.
I am really lucky to be on this journey of discovery with my children. I just hope and pray that I can maintain the energy needed to shape the enthusiastic children I was given.
Whenever I start to doubt what or how I am doing they will amaze me with their own creativity and thought processes. DS last night who was supposed to be sleeping...all was quiet so we thought he was..showed up around 10.30 pm- he's seven-with a laundry hamper full of different containers. In each he had separated his marbles into groups of ten. He said he was laying there contemplating how many marbles he had and he thought he had nearly one hundred. Low and behold he had divided them up and had ninty six! I was impressed that he had shown the initiative to do something so creative and mathmatical on his own.
Some days I wonder if he is listening as he is a restless learner and he appears to not be hearing me or paying attention. And then he will do something like that that will show me not only is he learning but more importantly he is thinking.
Today we are going to make a mini lapbook on Canada Day as the first is Canada Day :) We already put together a puzzle which showed all the provinces and territories as well as what each province had in the way of natural resources. And we discussed using the globe how people came to Canada and why.
I have been doing a lot of the cutting and pasting of the lapbooks but am going to insist that they start to do it themselves more. I tell them that yes Mom can do it for them but that won't let them practice it and they won't improve their own skills if Mom does it for them. ;) So here's hoping that today goes according to plan because here in this homeschool you never know what path of discovery will really take place as the discussion of life and world begins :)

All Creatures Great and Small..

Well looking at the ads today I saw someone giving away a beautiful dog. Beautiful of spirit anyway. Our last dog we didn't have for very long as she took to nipping at DD whenever she walked by.
I contacted the owner of the dog and she said she has to wait until next week for her DH to come home to make a final decision but it looks like we are the number one pick. I am so excited. I can't wait until the weekend is over :0)
Of course the kids are excited also but I am telling them to not get their hopes up too high as we won't know for certain till next week.
If it was meant to be it will be.

Today also marked the end of DD JK in PS and now it is slowly sinking that I have the daunting yet exciting road before me of educating both of our beautiful kids.
I think I need a week before we start at least to get the weeds in our flower bed under control. It seems like there is never enough hours in the day or energy in this body to accomplish all the tasks before me in a day.

Welcome :0)

Welcome to our family's homeschooling blog. I hope to post frequently with what we are up to. The more creative minds that share on the net the more we can all reap the benefits. Pardon me for any typos ahead of time as my time is limited between meals, laundry and teaching.
Our DS has been homeschooling with myslef as the main teacher and my husband filling in here and there for the past seven months. His progression has been remarkable. PS was changing him into a child we no longer recognized and although there were many factors in making our decision to homeschool I can honestly say I don't regret it for a minute.
One day till summer break when our DD will be joining our homeschool. Which we named as you may have already guessed Adventure Hollow. We decided to call it something so that when the kids are asked as they are so often, what school they attend they have a name to give.
We are lucky in our community that not too many people have had negative reactions to finding out about our homeschooling. I think more people are open minded and the main reaction I have found is one of 'I don't know how you do it.'
We have had some awesome learning units this past year and some not so popular ones ;)
I am relishing the idea of inspiring my children to great learning heights in the years to come. I plan on homeschooling throughout the summer in the heat of the day mainly. I am hoping that will be productive. Once I figure out how to add links if possible I will share some of the more handy resource sites I have found in our educational journey :)
